Alpina's Palanova 3rd at Gold Rush 42km Marathon
March 22,2009 |
| |
California Gold Rush 42km freestyle marathon
"The whole race was definitely about mental power." With snow falling all night and through the entire race, causing white-out conditions and calf-deep snow, every finisher of the 9km, 21km Silver Rush, and 42km Gold Rush marathons was a winner. Alpina's Lenka Palanova (Boulder, CO) powered through the conditions to place 3rd for the women. Eastern Team Alpina members, Jessica Snyder (Rochester, NY) and Alexandra Jospe (Newton, MA) flew in 12 hours earlier, drove through the storm, and, despite battling the flu and traveling back from the SkiO Championships in Japan, respectively, raced at altitude and paced each other to the finish.
